7. TABLE MAINTENANCE
Maintenance is a very important aspect to ensure sustained quality and durability over time. Be sure to communicate your after-sales support plans to the client.
The one question we receive all the time from our clients is: “Can the epoxy be scratched?”
The shortest answer to that question is an obvious “YES”. There seems to be confusion as to the physical properties of these tables.
The epoxy, in essence, is thermoset plastic. Therefore, just like with all other plastic materials, epoxy can also obtain scratch marks. It is very important to brief your client on the basic protection measures of epoxy tables. These may seem to be obvious measures, but keeping the “question” in mind, it makes sense to provide a reminder of the following:
Always use coasters when using glasses or mugs on the table surfaces.
Use placemats when dining on the table.
Use a trivet when placing hot items on the table.
Use a damp clean cloth to wipe the epoxy section.
Use proper wood cleaning aftercare products to clean the wood section. (Rubio Monocoat offers a wide range of maintenance products you can offer to your client)
When we deliver a table to a client, we will always apply one more coat of oil in front of the client. As discussed, we use either Odie's oil or Rubio Monocoat. We use this as an opportunity to illustrate the proper application technique to the client. You may even consider offering clients additional aftercare products or solutions to purchase, should they be interested.
We have a standard practice to inspect every table after twelve (12), and twenty-four (24) months for quality assurance purposes. This is another opportune moment to offer your client additional maintenance on the table if needed, at a fee of course.
